F1 sans ads

Mar 20, 2008 @ 06:41 am by Harry

One of the most annoying aspects of watching F1 on ITV is the adverts. Quite often during an advert something important happens and so you get to miss it. The pre and post advert tune seems to be ridiculously loud too (although in reality it probably isn’t it has probably just been adjusted to seem louder - there are apparently rules about this sort of thing).

So, imagine my joy when I read one of the best pieces of news I have read in a long time - F1 is coming back to the BBC. No more adverts! Maybe, who knows, they’ll even schedule some of the later in the day qualifying sessions and races to be shown live - I certainly hope so.

Also, the BBC is supposed to be more neutral in coverage so maybe it will not be the “Lewis Hamilton” show. Hope they keep Martin Brundle as, being an ex-driver, he knows a thing or two about the sport and, I think, gets a certain amount of respect from the other drivers. Definitely keep the grid walk.

I very much doubt that this piece of news is going to appear on the ITV-F1 site though for some time.

Yay!

Changed Priorities

Changed PrioritiesOn the way to work at the moment there is a road sign that makes me chuckle every time I see it. Sums up my work beautifully.

Mind reading

I missed this off the job specification when I started at my current employers (although to be fair they’re not unique in this respect): Required skills include “Mind Reading”

Yesterday I am told that a certain user is now allowed to do certain things within the company but they can’t do it. This needs to be sorted out now as this user has not been able to do this for over a week now and it is affecting the operation.

Of course it can be sorted out (it’s only a tick in a box) but if I don’t know about it then I will not do it.

Another F1 season starts

Mar 19, 2008 @ 06:46 am by Harry

At long last the 2008 F1 season has started. I hope I can manage to watch some of them in relative peace - a little annoyed that they’re going ahead with the night race as that means it will be on at lunchtime (our time) which is a prime time for being disturbed and not being able to watch it. Very tempted to get Sky+.

Not quite the start that Ferrari, and their supporters, wanted but I am sure that they can sort it out.

I take my hat off (reluctantly - I’m not a McLaren fan) to Lewis Hamilton. He had rather a dull race in comparison to everyone else but showed that he intends to carry on where he left off last season. A plea to ITV: please remember that there are 21 other drivers starting each race and, as much as I understand the commercial need, could you dedicate some of the programme time to them?

Bit of a bummer that Barrichelo got disqualified… I am sure he would have been delighted with the small handful of points he was on to get after last year’s duck.

Here’s looking forward to the next race at Sepang… come on Ferrari, you know you want to!
